Most of us would do anything we could to save an animal in distress.

Part of being able to save a life, however, is being in the right place at the right time. Many animals who are dumped in the water don’t get a chance to live because no one is around to save them. It’s hard to believe there are monsters out there who would, for instance, throw a cat off a bridge, but that’s exactly what happened in Florida recently. Fortunately for this miracle kitty, a hero was there to save the day.

Captain Jordan Smith is your average animal lover. He loves taking selfies with his dogs.

He posts photos of them all the time, with commenters online even referring to them as his “kids.”

He’s always trying to help animals, including this pup found by a friend and in need of a good home.

He was out on the water one day when he says he saw a little head trying to stay afloat. He had seen the cat fall from 15 feet up on a nearby bridge, apparently thrown off by an evil human.

“She latched ahold of me and didn’t want to let go,” he said. “She was just staring at me the whole time.” Learn more about this daring rescue in the video below.

Fortunately, he was able to get the kitty, now named “Miracle,” to the vet to get some help. As long as kitty gets along with his pups, he’ll be adopting her, too. What a happy ending!

They say that everything in Australia is trying to kill you.

From the poisonous plants to the giant spiders to the surprisingly violent kangaroos, there’s plenty out there in the bush that does not have your best interests at heart. If instead you decide to spend most of your Aussie vacation out on the water, well, that might be trying to kill you, too. One teenager found out the hard way that the ocean is just as dangerous as the land when he was severely injured in a way that will make your skin crawl.

Sam Kanizay was out swimming in the ocean off a suburb of Melbourne. He came out of the water and noticed blood dripping down his feet.

At first, he thought he had slipped on a rock, but then he noticed holes in his ankles. The rush of blood just got worse, and he was rushed to the hospital.

Doctors and nurses were perplexed by the creatures that bit him, concluding they may be some form of sea lice.

Sea lice feed on mucus, blood, and tissue of host fish, but marine biologists say they’ve never seen anything this vicious or immediate before in humans.

Sam was eventually released from the hospital, but not before his wounds were biopsied to ensure nothing living was still inside them.

His dad, Jarrod, took some raw meat out to the spot where Sam was swimming and captured more of the creatures so they can be sent off for testing. He also caught them on video eating the meat, but be warned, it’s pretty gross.

This is so scary. I feel itchy all over just looking at them. I’m glad Sam is recovering, and here’s hoping they figure out what caused his injuries so no one else gets hurt.

I consider myself to be really good at giving gifts, but it can be a huge source of stress for people.

After all, you want to get something you know the other person is going to absolutely love. In relationships, the pressure can be stacked even higher to make your significant other’s day.

Jordan Lebeau is one man who always went the extra mile with his gifts, but until recently, his wife didn’t know where he was getting his ideas. Then a viral tweet revealed his secret, and people in relationships everywhere are calling him a genius.

Jordan and his wife TyAnna have been married for a few months, but they’ve been together for more than three years.

Back in their senior year when they started dating, Jordan wanted to get her the perfect gift, so a friend suggested he check her Pinterest account. He made a fake account and has been following her ever since.

In response to a question from activist Deray Mckesson about who uses Pinterest, Jordan replied, revealing his secret.

Now, TyAnna knows about how he’s been getting her these perfect gifts, but she said she wasn’t shocked at all. “I thought it was really really sweet but I wasn’t surprised because Jordan really goes the extra mile to make me happy,” she said.

For as much effort as he’s put into gift-giving, Jordan has advice for others in relationships. “You don’t have to be committed to giving gifts if you don’t have the money or if your significant other isn’t big on gifts,” he said. “Get to know the person and commit to making them happy how they want to be made happy — not how you want them to receive it.”

These two have such a great outlook on love and relationships. The Pinterest idea is a great one for any significant others out there who want to learn what makes their partner happy.

One of my favorite things in the world is when my dog has a dream.

I love to watch his little paws move as his dream self chases a rabbit or runs an agility course or whatever it is that he’s got happening up in his brain. I guess I don’t think that much about other animals dreaming, but it definitely happens.

The Dudley Zoo in Great Britain recently released a pretty adorable video of a Patagonian sea lion twitching and making noises in its sleep. They also informed everyone that sea lions actually are pretty unique when it comes to sleep because half of their brain stays awake while the other half rests.

This split-sleep cycle is called unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. I call this sea lion too cute to handle.

Aww! I could watch this video all day long.

I’m prone to getting tons of mosquito bites, so after a certain point in the summer, I’m an itching machine.

A Boston terrier named Riley, however, has me beat when it comes to efficiency. The pup recently made everyone laugh out loud when she put her face and neck on the carpet and started crawling around. It’s weird, but it looks so, so satisfying.

What a hilarious little genius she is!

Some commenters say this is normal behavior for their dogs, but others suggest Riley’s owners get her to a vet to check for allergies or dermatitis. I’m sure her owners will take good care of her, but for now we can just ignore her antics!

When we travel with our pets, we want them to be as safe and comfortable as possible.

It’s an awful, nerve-racking experience for both animals and humans, which is why we’re willing to pay top dollar to have our furry friends fly. Many airlines have special dedicated staff who take care of the animals that fly with them to ensure they’re alive and well when we reach the destination.

United Airlines, who has been in trouble with multiple scandals, is now being criticized online after a woman posted a photo of supposed mistreatment of a dog on its tarmac. The airline has responded saying that not everything is exactly as it seems.

Passenger Barbara Passmore was at the Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas, when her flight was delayed for about an hour.

While service dogs and some small dogs can stay in the cabin with their owners, most animals ride in the cargo hold in their crates.

Passmore says when she looked out the window she noticed a crate sitting on the cold and wet tarmac for almost an hour while passengers waited for takeoff.

Passmore alerted flight attendants and United staff to the dog’s situation and tweeted the following photo, which then went viral. Outraged pet owners wanted United to answer for their actions.

United Airlines responded on Twitter saying their PetSafe staff had monitored the situation appropriately, ensuring the pup was placed fully under the wing to stay out of the rain. They also emphasized that the owner and dog were happy and safe following the flight.

Some weren’t buying it, though, including the singer Sia. Sia vowed on Twitter that she would never fly United again, preferring her animals be treated differently by another airline.

Passmore also isn’t satisfied with the response, but she hopes she’s done some good. “I don’t think my posting the image made a difference to the dog, but perhaps future dogs will receive better treatment from airlines as a result of this public outcry,” she said.

It’s unclear whether or not the crate is really under the wing given the angle at which the photo was taken, but we’re happy to hear that the dog is safe. What do you think about the situation?
